Come find out!\nREGISTER HERE\nRegister for our January 26\, 2025 virtual program at 4 p.m.!  Dr. Rachel Gevlin of Virginia Commonwealth University will speak on “Jane Austen and the First Divorced Husband”\, a reprise of her Cleveland AGM breakout session.  This AGM session was not recorded\, so will be new to you if you were not in the room where it happened!\n\nRachel Gevlin teaches 18th-century literature\, literary theory and women writers at VCU. Her book project explores representations of marital disunion in the 18th-century novel.  She has presented at two AGMs and for our JASNA-DC Region.

There will be prizes! \nLimited parking is available in the church lot but additional street parking is available. The closest Metro is Virginia Square on the orange/silver lines. DESCRIPTION:Dec. 13 at 12 p.m.: Celebrate Jane Austen’s 250th Birthday with us at Clyde’s downtown Washington DC location! \nOur annual Birthday Luncheon will be held at Clyde’s (Gallery Place) 707 7th St. NW.  Lunch will be buffet style. \nWe are delighted to welcome our speaker Dr. Maria Frawley with a talk titled “Jane Austen: A Way With Words.” \nMaria Frawley is a professor of English at George Washington University. Her recent book\, Jane Austen in 50 Words\, explores the distinctive vocabulary that Jane Austen repeatedly drew on to create her signature stories and that enabled her to transform her courtship plots into serious studies of character and conduct. Dr. Frawley has kindly agreed to sign her book after lunch\, so bring your copy with you!
